Shifting the Dog

Shifting the Dog

In Mobille, Alabama the dog river is a giant spread of wildlife that flows into suburban areas. This project was started off of a previous group of projects in order to bring direction, clarity and new purpose to a given area. The specific idea this project was centered on is erosion.

Original Outcomes

Working with the help of Mallory Nash and Mia Stamey. The erosion based project was created as a way to sove environmental problems with mordern solutions. The group as a whole decided to mae a project centered around bringing awareness to the river and building a community to it in order to create long lasting preservation in fixing our topic; which was erosion. My contribution to the project was the physical build of the model including the Rhino rendering and then attaching layers, colors and building the virtual environment. The bridge is meant to be a forest type scene with bike trails and warm temperatures. This scene should make the bridge look even more inviting and build the want for residents of the community to stop by and really appreciate this moment in nature. The pillars you see provide shade while also creating a scene of what you would see if you drove past trees quickly. The light should shine through them making it feel like a grove of trees even though the structure is far from it. Along with the bridge itself using enscape I added in every patch of grass, tree, color pattern and even positioned the sun to give the shade and time of day trying to communicate the perfect scene across our project. By adding people into the image, a sense of life and usage is added to the scene. Showing others how the space could be used adds new interpretation to the space. Attaching the bridge model on the left allows you to see the rungs and shade structures on top of the bridge from a different angle. Underneath the rungs, is a path made of concrete we hope to stretch down the river as a bike path and across the bridge. I left the lines underneath the bridge to show the elevation of the river dipping down to where to water level is. To the left you can see the groups original designs for the bridge.

Takeaway

The Point of this project was to come up with something to help erosion while also bringing ties into a community. I believe this project not only taught me how to use new software but also taught me how to think about solving multiple problems at once. Moving forward I hope to take these skills and create even more structures that solve multiple problems from multiple angles.

Ghosts of Selma

Ghosts of Selma

Remembering those who risked everything on their march to the capitol

The Selma March

The red dots shown on the line below demonstrate where each of my designed structures will be positioned. This marks one position every mile with a total of 54 figures.

What is it?

The ghosts of Selma is a project that highlights the brave members of the Selma march. Going from Selma to Montgomery to make themselves heard. The members of the march braved a 54-mile trek over the course of four days. In order to commemorate them, I have created a line of signs that follows the same path that the marchers themselves took. My design shows a 15-foot-tall figure of a person that has an outline of neon lights around all the key features and outline. The figure itself is made of a thick steel plate that is held up and supported by metal pipes. The pipe outline, shown above, is a demonstration of a inner city rendition. Each figure will have a unique shape and outline whether that be standing, sitting or walking. One figure will be placed at every mile. In cases such as mile markers where there are campsites from the march, multiple figures will be placed before the entrance to help better mark these historical landmarks. The drawing on the up above on the interstate shows the outline in which the lights will be connected as well as a second figure in the distance. The hope is to allow conservation and awareness of the Selma march to be brought up to more people who may not know what the march is or represented. While driving, seeing a series of giant figures is certain to make any viewer research more about what they are and why they are there.

Perspective

This project began as a course dedicated to thinking outside the box. In order to put more flare into the project, the goal was given prompts and iterations in order to bring about more creative ideas. My idea was all about perspective. What could I create that would be both uniform and also look different in many ways that you looked at it. to begin I started with drawings, focusing on structure, sharp edges and uniformity. I hoped that by focusing on thiese in my drawings I would be able to in turn my project into a cube that had many different views but also the same ones as well. The cube has 6 sides that are all exactly the same but have been shifted in different directions. .The cube was very symetrical at this point but had nothing special. No major thing about it that really just brought in more attention or more detail. In order to fix this the original plan was the white image as seen above. Add 36 perfect squares alternating at 45-degree angles in order to create a spiraling affect. When piecing all of these squares together, I noticed that something still seemed to be missing. The project had multiple angles, but didn’t have a complex that would make a viewer wonder what the purpose is. Adding another level of complexity. So I created a cube inside of the existing cube. The new cube is extremely simple and attached to the already spiraled design. The internal cube was rotated at an angle 90 degrees different from the outside cube. With the new cube you can now see multiple perspectives with new objects or patterns with each view. Above I have attached some images of the actual model of the cube and some different viewpoints to really highlight the original ideas I hoped to portray.

Auburn Aetos Jerseys

Auburn Aetos Jerseys

The auburn ultimate frisbee team is personal to me in particular. I have been a part of the team for several years and have been in leadership for two of those years. This year I designed and created over 50 mock ups for the team and asked them to choose which ones they would like to keep for this year. The chosen designs were placed in a team store after being edited and fixed. The reversible in the top left of page 18 not only has a white side with a jungle theme but also has a dark side like a predator stalking in the night. The actual jerseys as seen to the left and up above. Were inspired by a mixture of jerseys from the past. On the black jersey we chose a simple design that focuses on a memorial to a previous member on the team. His number was 84 and as a toeken to him I placed his number on the jersey with wings around it. Similarly I placed the Aetos logo on the opposite sleeve. On both Jersey you will notive the talon swipes going through the center of the jersey underneath our logo. The reason for this is in the name Aetos. In Greek this translates to eagle. So directly we are the Auburn Eagles. To match this the talons matched 4 strikes like the strikes of eagle talons. Moving to the white jersey. Here I decided to go for history in a different way. On the sleeve of the white jersey there is a logo that looks like a bean with a wing. This is the team’s original logo that has been added to the jersey in order to add more history and bring old players back into the current team. The bottom left and right of the jersey are actually Toomer’s corner oak trees that have been placed there in order to give players a reminder of home. Something that seem insignificant but means more to those from auburn. If you care to see other versions of the jerseys or other mock ups then just ask, I have plenty more to share.

In Action.
